Jane Ellen's Story
How is it possible that we're turning 60 this year? I keep waiting to grow up and find all the answers that I thought would come naturally with the onset of adulthood. After all, didn't our parents have all the answers back in the 60s when they were raising us?
After 4 great years at The College of William and Mary, along with Molli Amburn, Tom Heitz, and John Glick, I married my HHS sweetheart, Ted Glover. We lived in Highland County for 15 years, where I taught and gave birth to 3 children. We moved back to the valley, settling in Staunton, when financial survival in the mountains became burdensome. Adapting to the big city certainly had its challenges, but also its benefits, for all 5 of us. y in Sweden, one daughter and family in New Jersey, and the youngest and her husband in Germany.
The empty nest has afforded me time to qualify for Master Gardener status, which brings many outdoor volunteer opportunities throughout the year. I'm studying to become a docent at the JMU arboretum. I continue to teach swim lessons at the YMCA, as I have done for nearly 20 years. And I've delighted in travel adventures, In my sights now is an August trip to Germany to welcome our 5th grandchild, scheduled to make an appearance shortly before we touchdown in Dusseldorf.
The twists and turns I've encountered in life since leaving the hallowed halls of HHS have taken me places I never dreamed possible as a teen. The years ahead undoubtably hold more surprises. I'm ready for whatever life brings!
